Henri-Etta Half-Man, Half-Woman |
|
|
from Marc Hartzman: Henrietta Hoffman was born in 1907 in Richmond, England, a small
town outside of London. She was a normal child until age of 12 when a
change took place in her body. While most girls her age went through
puberty, Hoffman claimed a different experience. She became both womanly
and manly. By age 14, the right side of her body was completely covered
by hair and larger in every proportion. “The medical university at
Kent, England, after studying Henrietta’s case, pronounced it the
nearest and complete union of man and woman ever born together in one
body and yet live to be a perfect normal person in a healthy and mental
condition.”
In the early 1930s, Henri-Etta performed at theaters across the
country, she was known as “Nature’s Question Mark.” She gave a lecture
on her condition and a demonstration of her body. Children under 16
were not allowed in the show.
