Wild Woman "Florida Demon" Handbill

* Top 100 *
Very rare and extraordinary handbill from the town of Moodus, Connecticut, dated in pencil 1859. The performer, while unknown to us, appears to be an African-American woman, as depicted in the woodcut, of small stature with distorted and/or twisted arms and legs. In addition to her physical anomalies she was likewise presented in the guise of a Wild Woman. "This wonderful specimen of eratic human nature, who has been witnessed by thousands of spectators and his been pronounced the 'Ne Plus-Ultra' of all curiosities ever witnessed bv mortal man.
