Madame Marietta Orloff

"Woman With The Red Beard"

from Marc Hartzman: Madame Marietta Orloff – Known in Europe as “the woman with the red
beard.” She was married to Joseph Orloff, a Polish showman, who
exhibited her in all the great fairs of Italy, Spain, Germany and
France for 10 years. They came to the US in 1878, but did not like the
country and returned to Europe after only a few months. Madame Orloff’s
husband died shortly after in November of 1879. The widowed bearded
lady moved to Berlin and opened a saloon and hotel which quickly became
a favorite resort of local showman and freaks. Madame Orloff passed
away in March of 1885 in Berlin.
