Rossow's Midgets ~Boxing Midget Act~ |
|
|
Franz & Carl Rossow, seen in this 1905 Vaudeville Favorites magazine illustration, were a popular boxing brother midget act that appeared primarily on the vaudeville stage rather than with circuses. Years later, in the 1940's, Ike & Mike, a pair of midget boxing twins, continued the tradition in the sideshow, most notably with Ringling Brothers and at Coney Island. A 1899 review of their show in Buffalo, NY said: "...much laughter was caused by the act of the Rossow Midgets, who box three rounds to a knockout. Charley Rossow afterward appears in little girl’s garb and sings songs. He is a bright little man and the impersonation is excellent." |
