[Tattooist— Tattoo Photograher]
Percy Waters Tattoo Pitchcards |
||||||||||||||||
History: 1888-1952. Waters was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1888, and reportedly was trained in his craft by the legendary bowery tattooist Charlie Wagner. While he tattooed many professional sideshow performers, Waters may be best remembered by sideshow historians as a photographer, or at least as an important publisher of tattoo pitchcards. Real Photo Postcards bearing Waters imprint are generally of high quality, dramatically photographed in a style which is very distinctive. These cards sold by the performers— as well as by Waters himself through his Detroit, Michigan tattoo supply company catalogues— were marked or stamped "Waters Detroit". Waters modestly billed himself as "Just a Good Tattooer" in his literature and advertising. He died in 1952 in his hometown of Anniston, Alabama. |
